Bethesda, MD, May 8, 2005 -- Geocentric, a early stage Maryland technology firm, announced today the availability of SWFmap web based mapping technology.
SWFmap was developed using Macromedia Flash technology to control a set of dyanamic, vector based map layers, inside a web browser. The result is a Rich Internet Application (RIA) where the user can navigate (pan and zoom) the map without reloading the web page. In addition, because the mapping engine resides entirely inside the web browser, there is no requirement for a server side mapping component to install or manage.
"For organizations without a large budget to spend on web based GIS, SWFmap provides a lightweight and powerful alternative," explained Geocentric Founder Jim Blakeslee. " That's why we chose to come here, to the Cool Cities Conference. SWFmap is certainly Cool technology, perfect for folks that are looking for a cool way to promote their cities."
